Week 14 Matchups and Playoff Scenarios

For a few of us this week will be the last time we scan the waiver wire, set lineups, and wonder where it all went wrong until Labor Day 2023. For those of us who aren’t complete dummies, this week is just the start of a long and potentially prosperous fantasy playoff run.

A couple reminders as we head into the last week:

Tim (4-8) VS Taylor (6-7)

For Tim it’s pretty simple, avoiding a 4th consecutive loss and you are safe from being one half of the 2023 co-owner team. An injury last week to Lamar Jackson seems to have doomed Tim, but there are 4 starting QBs on the waiver wire.

Taylor gets a big boost with a healthy Kyler Murray back this week. A win would guarantee Tay a Playoff spot while a loss doesn’t necessarily mean he’s out.

Eric (5-8) VS Jesse (5-8)

Both Eric and Jesse trail Tim’s season Points For by a wide enough margin (964.41 & 1,867.2 respectively) that the loser of this matchup will almost certainly be named co-owner in the event that Tim pulls off an upset over Taylor. Making this matchup even more interesting, the winner will sneak into the playoffs if the Step Owners and Cha lose this week.

The teams themselves aren’t all that interesting. Eric has lost 4 straight, hasn’t scored 1000+ since Week 7, and Aaron Rodgers and Marcus Mariota are on BYE leaving him with 1 starting QB. Jesse looks to break a 2 game losing streak and has a full, albeit uninspiring, lineup.

Ryan (9-4) VS Dave (9-4)

I probably should have led with this matchup! The winner will capture the #1 seed, $100, and the right to select any playoff team as their opponent next week. A loss for Dave would likely mean a 2nd place finish but Ryan could fall all the way to 3rd if Justin wins.

Ryan will be without Johnathan Taylor this week and his bench is comprised of 3 players on BYE, 2 open slots, and Baker Mayfield. Dave is without a QB 2 this week with 3 of 4 QBs on BYE. The waiver wire should be really interesting!

Step Owners (5-7-1) VS Justin (8-5)

The Step Owners are safe from repeating as co-owners and can make the playoffs with a win. Justin looks to at least hold onto the #3 seed and possibly move up a spot if Ryan loses to Dave.

The Stop Owners have been consistently scoring between 900-1000 since Week 8 and it’s hard to see them doing much better than that this week with the like of Julio Jones and “K. Williams” currently slotted into the starting lineup. Justin doesn’t have any major injuries or BYE weeks and will likely roll to victory.

Mike (6-7) VS Drew (7-6)

Drew is safely in the playoffs but doesn’t have a shot at a top 3 seed so nothing he does this week really matters. Mike’s Points For are good enough that even a loss likely means he still in the playoffs unless both Cha and the Step Owners win.

Mike is currently a big favorite in the projections and could be a hard out in the playoffs with a healthy Ja’marr Chase. Drew needs to find a replacement for Alvin Kamara, who is on BYE this week.

Andrew (8-5) vs Cha (5-7-1)

Big congrats to Andrew who will be making his second ever playoff appearance next week! A win this week, coupled with a Justin loss, would propel Andrew all the way up to the #3 seed. For Cha, a win would likely mean he’s in the playoffs but he will need some help to get there. Specifically, a Mike and/or Step Owners loss or by simply surpassing the Step Owners in Points For.

Cha will be without Aaron Jones this week and STILL does not have a QB 2. Andrew, also with out a QB 2, has an otherwise full lineup and should be favored heavily.
