Some Fantasy Football Observations

It's been too long since I've written anything on the league. Real life responsibilities are finally catching up with me, which is a good thing but means I have far less time to invest in writing funny / mean spirited quips about your shitty team. We all love the Power Rankings but I wanted to try something new this time around and just write on a few topics that are top of mind.

Some fun stats

No Team has an expected record better than 5-3 and no team has expected record worse than 3-5. Even more fun (is that the right word?) we have 4 Teams with 5 Expected Wins, 4 Teams with 4 Expected Wins, and 4 Teams with 3 Expected Wins.

I recently added a Points Per Game (PPG) column to the sheet. The difference between the League's highest scoring team (Cha at 1149.8 PPG) and the League's lowest scoring team (Jason at 980.3) is less than 170 pts.

So while Tim is running away in the only stat that matters (WINS), it's interesting to note that teams have been pretty evenly matched through 8 Weeks.

Some stats we don't track

Matchups

UGH why did I not collect this data from the start?! Would have been so much fun to know the All-Time record of the Ridder Bowl.

Points Allowed

This really get's back to matchups but it would be really fun to analyze this data and see what story it might tell over the course of a season. This information would also allow us to see Point Differential.

I COULD start collecting this starting this year, but the historic data is likely lost with us having changed platforms 3 times over the years.

Jason has been awful

Jason stands at 2-6 after dropping 4 straight matchups and is in danger of not only missing the playoffs but automatic Co-Ownership. Generally a year-in-year out contender, Jason has only finished under .500 twice. First in 2015 when he finished 3-9 and most recently in 2017 when he finished 5-7.

As bad as this season has been, it's far from historically bad. Jason's league low .341 All-Play Win% is only the 10th lowest All-Play Win% since the Taylor joined the league.

A big part of Jason's struggles might be the surprising lack of activity this year. Jason has made 5 waiver claims and only 1 trade.

Trades are way down

It's Week 9 and we only have 7 trades! I'm not sure if this is a result of the new Keeper rules, the league standings being so close, or just a general lack of interest. Either way, would love to see more transitions.

Tim is 8-0

Really burring the lead here, but Tim is undefeated and having the most successful season record wise we have ever seen.

This is hard to believe, but the best record in Taylor Era is just 9-3. This has been done 10 times, most recently by Tim and Jason in 2020.

Tim is on pace to easily surpass that record by season's end. Of course it was likely the season high win total would be bested this season with two additional games added to the schedule.

Not to downplay of Tim's success, but he currently has only the 10th best all-time All-Play Win%, is tied with Cha in All-Play Win% this year, and is 2nd in the League this year in PPG.
